How to: Polymer Clay Cactus Charm πŸŒ΅

Happy Fridayy everyone!

Yes. It’s a cactus. And it’s a teeny lil clay charm..! *ahh too much cuteness*

But seriously how cutee is this little charm? I love making stuffs with polymer clay- and so I thought I’d show you all how to make a cactus charm to put on a necklace, bracelet, keyring or just on its own- whatever you choose- it will be adorable! πŸ˜€

FullSizeRender(661)You will need…

  • Green Polymer (oven bake) clay
  • Brown Polymer (oven bake) clay
  • White Polymer (oven bake) clay
  • Acrylic paint
  • Thin paintbrush
  • Marker/ pen

optional:

  • Metal charm loops

How to make it…

Firstly, add some white clay to brown and mould in your fingers until you get the shade of brown you want for the pot.

Mould it into a pot like shape by rolling it in your fingers, and using a pencil or the end of a paintbrush to make a small hole in the middle like soo…

Then roll a thin strip of brown and squish flat. Wrap this around the top of the pot to create a ‘rim’ for your plant pot! This is quite fiddly so don’t worry if it’s not perfect all the way round (nobody needs to see the back of mine…*nervous laughs*)

Now roll a piece of green clay however big you like in your fingers and make the cactus shape. Yours could be really tall, short, wide- make it how you like! Press it gently down onto the pot you just made.

Then I also made a little arm to stick on the side too!

Before it goes in the oven, gently push a metal loop into the top if you chose to use one!

Bake your cactus friend in the oven for 10-15 minutes at 180 degrees celsius (careful when using the oven). Leave it to cool until cold to the touch.

For the next part you can get a little creative and use some light green (or dark) acrylic and a thin paintbrush to paint on patterns to the green bit. I did stripes on mine! Let it dry then use a black pen to draw a little smiley face on the pot! Naww! πŸ˜‰

I now have two little cacti friends for on my desk- they’re super cute and fun to make- let me know what you think of these guys! Will you be having a go at these?
